A$AP Rocky Will Make His Acting Debut at Sundance Later This Week

Two years ago, A$AP Rocky hinted during an interview with Angie Martinez that Hollywood was calling and he may begin venturing into the movie business sooner rather than later. This week, he'll make his acting debut in director Rick Famuyiwa’s Dope, which premieres at Sundance. The coming-of-age drama is produced by Sean Combs, Forest Whitaker, Pharrell, and more.

“The main character, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is a Nineties hip-hop geek,” Famuyiwa told Entertainment Weekly. “He isn’t a drug dealer or a gang banger. He’s into all types of music, and video games and computers. We’ve seen a lot of films about everything else in these neighborhoods—the crime, the athletes, the gangs—but you don’t see films about the regular kids who have to survive in these streets.”

Dope is set in Inglewood, CA and according to Famuyiwa, Rocky snagged a supporting role after helping his ex-girlfriend Chanel Iman practice her role in the film. Zoe Kravitz, Tyga, Vince Staples, and more will star in the film, as well.

Page Six is reporting that the premiere and party will go down on Saturday at Acura Studio. Hopefully we'll see his cameo on the big screen soon.
